How to learn German
Learning another language is not an easy task. But with the right support and good language courses, you will surely be able to speak German soon. You will find tips and important services here.
To make speaking German easier for you, there are German courses for beginners. Here, you will also learn about everyday life in Germany. With other participants in the course, you will learn, for example, what you can say when going shopping.
Every integration course consists of a language course and an orientation course. The language course includes topics of everyday life like work and profession or leisure time. Like this, you learn the language more easily. In the orientation course, you learn, for example, about your rights and obligations or the history of Germany. For young people, there is a youth integration course addressing topics such as applying for a training place.
If your school attendance is still compulsory and you go to school here in Germany, you will take a supporting or language learning class. In this class, you will learn German. Afterwards, you can switch to a regular school class.
Learning a language interactively
There are different free online services that you can use on your smartphone or tablet.
- The app "Ankommen" (Arrive) contains an autodidactic language course with many exercises.
- The website of Goethe Institute provides interactive language courses, a vocabulary trainer and useful videos.
- On www.ich-will-deutsch-lernen.de, there are online courses for different skill levels.
Good to know
Most language courses are free of charge. Before every course, there is an assessment test. Here, you will find out how well you already speak the language and which course section you will start in. The integration courses end with an exam. You can find more information at, for example, the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees, at your immigration authority or at a migration counselling office.
